A significant outcome of the conference was the unanimous call for reforming the International Financial System to mobilize more resources for SIDS. The support for the Multi-Dimensional Vulnerability Index (MVI) was particularly heartening, as it will aid SIDS in accessing concessional funding.

Implementation and Accountability

“The key issue is implementation,” Browne stated, emphasizing the importance of expanding stakeholder involvement and adopting a multi-stakeholder approach. The Center of Excellence for SIDS will ensure systematic coordination, cooperation, and collaboration, backed by biannual meetings and progress reports.

Leveraging Natural Assets and Innovation

Browne highlighted the potential of leveraging natural assets and monetizing creativity. He discussed the importance of the orange economy and using technology, including AI, to develop and monetize artistic productions. Sports also present a significant opportunity for development and export.

Resilient Development Bank

A novel initiative is the Development Bank for Resilient Prosperity, envisioned to be the custodian of green and blue assets. By  empowering governments to capture the value of assets like seagrass, mangroves and the seabed, the bank aims to create new income streams and help SIDS meet their financial obligations and achieve sustainable development goals.
