Key Takeaways:

  • $477 million green loan secured to finance the development of DC Tuas, a 58MW sustainable data centre.
  • Green Mark Platinum certification awarded, reinforcing sustainability commitments.
  • State-of-the-art infrastructure includes high-density AI-ready cooling systems and a Power Usage Effectiveness below 1.25.

Singtel Expands Sustainable Digital Infrastructure

Singtel’s data centre subsidiary, Nxera DCT Pte Ltd., has secured a $477 million (S$643 million) five-year green loan to fund the development of DC Tuas, Singapore’s most hyper-connected and sustainable data centre. The financing is provided by DBS, OCBC, Standard Chartered, HSBC, and UOB, which also serve as green loan coordinators.

The proceeds will support the development and capital expenditure of DC Tuas, which has earned Green Mark Platinum certification from Singapore’s Building and Construction Authority and Infocomm Media Development Authority, underscoring Nxera’s commitment to sustainable design and operations.

Cutting-Edge Efficiency and AI-Ready Capabilities

DC Tuas is designed to handle high-intensity compute and AI workloads with next-generation liquid cooling systems and a high-density environment exceeding 30kW per rack. The facility will operate with a Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) below 1.25, making it one of the most efficient data centres in the industry.

Arthur Lang, Singtel Group Chief Financial Officer, emphasized the strategic importance of sustainability in their operations:

“DC Tuas will feature a green design and build, as well as next-generation liquid cooling systems, making it ideal for meeting the demand from enterprises for high-intensity compute and AI workloads. Sustainability is a core part of our data centre business, and we are committed to developing and growing the industry’s most sustainable, next-generation digital assets. This loan will enable us to support Singapore’s digital economy while reducing our carbon footprint in keeping with our net-zero goals.”

Green Finance Commitment and Future Goals

Nxera aims to achieve scope 1 and 2 net-zero emissions by 2028, integrating sustainability across its operations. The DC Tuas facility, set to be operational by 2026, will optimize land, power, and water resources while incorporating a highly efficient chilled water system and water recycling technologies.

This latest green loan aligns with Singtel’s Olives sustainable financing program, which ties the company’s financing strategy to its long-term sustainability targets. In December 2023, Singtel previously secured a $397 million (S$535 million) green loan to refinance borrowings and support its existing DC West and DC Kim Chuan operations.

By reinforcing its green financing framework, Singtel continues to advance Singapore’s digital infrastructure while maintaining a strong commitment to environmental responsibility.
