Uganda\u2019s presidential election on January 15 has left the country suspended between two stark realities. In one, President Yoweri Museveni has secured a commanding seventh term and projects continuity after nearly four decades in power. In the other, opposition leader Bobi Wine says the result is a manufactured victory, achieved through intimidation, ballot tampering, and a sweeping crackdown that transformed a national vote into what he calls \u201ca political performance, not a democracy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The dispute now places Uganda at a critical inflection point, with implications far beyond its borders for democratic legitimacy, civic rights, and the future of governance in Africa<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking to Al Jazeera from an undisclosed location, Wine said his campaign has collected video and documentary evidence of ballot stuffing and manipulation by election officials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe have evidence of fraud,\u201d<\/em> he said. \u201cWe have videos showing officials filling ballots in favor of Museveni. This was not an election. It was a well coordinated operation to retain power.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
