{"id":2236,"date":"2024-04-25T14:23:38","date_gmt":"2024-04-25T14:23:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sdgnews.com\/?p=2236"},"modified":"2024-04-25T14:23:40","modified_gmt":"2024-04-25T14:23:40","slug":"blown-away-ny-offshore-wind-project-cancelled","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sdgnews.com\/ar\/blown-away-ny-offshore-wind-project-cancelled\/","title":{"rendered":"Blown Away: NY Offshore Wind Project Cancelled"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>New York nixes 3 offshore wind projects, notes GE Vernova move to abandon 18-MW turbine<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-sdg-brief\">SDG Brief:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nyserda.ny.gov\/All-Programs\/Offshore-Wind\/Focus-Areas\/Offshore-Wind-Solicitations\/2022-Solicitation\">announced Friday<\/a>\u00a0that the state won\u2019t be going forward with the three projects it provisionally awarded in its third offshore wind solicitation due to \u201cmaterial modifications\u201d to the projects,\u00a0including GE Vernova\u2019s pivot away from an 18-MW turbine model.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The solicitation has concluded with no final awards being made, NYSERDA said. The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.utilitydive.com\/news\/offshore-wind-solicitations-new-york-transmission-hochul-veto\/697763\/\">three projects canceled<\/a>\u00a0are the 1,404-MW Attentive Energy One, the 1,314-MW Community Offshore Wind and the 1,314-MW Excelsior Wind \u2014\u00a0a total of 4 GW of capacity.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u201cGoing forward, we expect to center our offshore wind business around a workhorse product, the Haliade-X 15.5 MW-250,\u201d GE Vernova said in a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gevernova.com\/sites\/default\/files\/2024-02\/form10_registration_statement_feb2024.pdf\">February SEC filing<\/a>.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-sdg-insight\">SDG Insight:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>NYSERDA\u2019s announcement comes as the U.S. offshore wind industry had begun to recover from 2023 economic headwinds \u2014&nbsp;including supply chain issues, inflation and higher interest rates \u2014&nbsp;that led to several project cancelations and exited contracts contract exits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It also sets New York back in its state goal to deploy 9 GW of offshore wind by 2035.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Attentive Energy One was being developed by TotalEnergies, Rise Light &amp; Power and Corio Generation; Community Offshore Wind was being developed by RWE Offshore Renewables and National Grid Ventures; and Excelsior Wind was being developed by Vineyard Offshore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NYSERDA had provisionally awarded $300 million of grant funding to GE Vernova and LM Wind Power for local nacelle and blade manufacturing \u201cassociated with the provisionally awarded projects.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cSubsequent to the provisional award announcement, material modifications to projects bid into New York\u2019s third offshore wind solicitation caused technical and commercial complexities between provisional awardees and their partners, resulting in the provisionally awarded parties\u2019 inability to come to terms,\u201d <\/em>NYSERDA said.<\/p>\n\n\n\t\t<div data-elementor-type=\"page\" data-elementor-id=\"2169\" class=\"elementor elementor-2169\" data-elementor-post-type=\"elementor_library\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-1ad85f5 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"1ad85f5\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-c4c36b5 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"c4c36b5\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\"><h5 data-elementor-setting-key=\"title\" data-pen-placeholder=\"Type Here...\" style=\"font-family: joanna-nova, sans-serif;font-weight: 400;line-height: var( --e-global-typography-7044a64-line-height );font-size: var( --e-global-typography-7044a64-font-size );letter-spacing: normal;text-align: center\">Change the World -
