Built at a cost of \u20ac150 million ($167 million), the plant is a joint venture between Denmark\u2019s <strong>European Energy<\/strong> and <strong>Japan\u2019s Mitsui<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-maersk-leads-the-shift-to-green-shipping-fuel\">Maersk Leads the Shift to Green Shipping Fuel<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Global shipping giant <strong>Maersk<\/strong> will be the primary customer of the Kasso facility. The company operates 13 dual-fuel methanol container ships\u2014with another 13 on order\u2014that can run on both traditional fuel oil and e-methanol.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cWe expect that we will have a price parity with fossil methanol around 2035,\u201d said <strong>Knud Erik Andersen<\/strong>, CEO of European Energy.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>The plant\u2019s annual production\u201442,000 metric tons or 53 million litres\u2014is enough to power one large 16,000-container vessel sailing between Asia and Europe, according to Maersk. The <strong>Laura Maersk<\/strong>, the world\u2019s first dual-fuel container ship, is set to be fueled near the Kasso plant and requires only 3,600 tons per year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-clean-fuel-for-more-than-just-ships\">Clean Fuel for More Than Just Ships<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Traditional methanol is made from fossil fuels, but the Kasso plant produces <strong>e-methanol<\/strong> using renewable electricity and CO\u2082 captured from <strong>biogas plants and waste incineration<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The fuel will not only decarbonize shipping but also help Danish manufacturers cut emissions. <strong>Novo Nordisk<\/strong> will use the green methanol for injection pens, and <strong>Lego<\/strong> will use it for plastic production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additionally, excess heat from the plant will provide heating for <strong>3,300 local households<\/strong>, contributing to the area\u2019s clean energy use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-expansion-plans-already-underway\">Expansion Plans Already Underway<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>European Energy has announced plans to <strong>expand the Kasso facility<\/strong> and develop a <strong>pipeline of e-methanol plants<\/strong> in Europe, Australia, Brazil, and the U.S.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Maersk acknowledged the financial challenge of switching to sustainable fuels and said it continues to research <strong>green fuel technologies<\/strong> and <strong>more efficient shipping solutions<\/strong> to drive down costs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cOne of the biggest challenges of switching to sustainable fuel was cost,\u201d Maersk said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>As the International Maritime Organization targets full decarbonization of the shipping industry by 2050, Denmark\u2019s new facility marks a vital first step toward scaling green fuel infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Maersk Reinforces Blue Economy Leadership Ahead of Nature Summit<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>As part of its growing commitment to the sustainable blue economy, Maersk is investing heavily in green maritime fuels, coastal resilience initiatives, and decarbonization across global shipping lanes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chairman of A.P.
