That\u2019s equivalent to removing 20,000 petrol cars from UK roads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>\u201cNow is the right time for us to tap into [green] hydrogen\u2019s significant potential,\u201d<\/em> said <strong>Dan Howell<\/strong>, VP &amp; MD at Kimberly-Clark UK &amp; Ireland. <em>\u201cWe are delighted to be the first UK consumer goods manufacturer to really embrace green hydrogen\u2026 and adopt it at scale.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Green Hydrogen Facilities to Power 1 Billion Toilet Rolls and 150 Million Tissue Boxes<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The hydrogen projects will be delivered through partnerships with <strong>Carlton Power<\/strong> and <strong>HYRO<\/strong>, a joint venture between Octopus Energy Generation and RES. Each facility will be built directly at the manufacturing sites:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Barrow-in-Furness<\/strong>: 100 GWh green hydrogen annually<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Northfleet (Kent)<\/strong>: 47 GWh green hydrogen annually<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>\u201cGreen hydrogen, created using British low carbon energy, will revolutionise how we power industry,\u201d<\/em> said <strong>Lucy Whitford<\/strong>, Managing Director UK &amp; I at RES.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Backed by UK Government\u2019s Hydrogen Rollout<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The projects were selected under the UK Government\u2019s <strong>Hydrogen Allocation Round One (HAR1)<\/strong>, with support through the Hydrogen Production Business Model and Net Zero Hydrogen Fund. Both facilities have secured local planning approvals \u2014 Barrow in June 2023 and Northfleet in August 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>\u201cThis government is rolling out hydrogen at scale for the first time\u2026 with ten shovel-ready projects powering businesses from Teesside to Devon,\u201d<\/em> said <strong>Sarah Jones<\/strong>, UK Minister for Industry.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>\u201cThis is an exciting milestone for HYRO and for green hydrogen in the UK\u2019s industrial sector,\u201d <\/em>added <strong>Alex Brierley<\/strong>, co-head of Octopus Energy Generation\u2019s fund management team. <em>\u201cKimberly-Clark has been a pioneer in this space.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Scaling Impact Through Renewable Energy and Industrial Innovation<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The initiative supports Kimberly-Clark\u2019s UK target to reduce operational GHG emissions by <strong>over 80% by 2027<\/strong>, compared to 2015 levels.
