Key Impact Points:

  • Constellation Foundation commits $1 million to fund 35 sustainability projects in Illinois, Maryland, New York, Pennsylvania, and Texas.
  • CLEAN Awards aim to combat climate change, protect ecosystems, and advance environmental education in communities surrounding Constellation’s clean energy centers.
  • Chesapeake Bay Trust and other local organizations will lead efforts in conservation, habitat restoration, and environmental education.

$1M Grant to Drive Sustainability

Constellation, the largest U.S. producer of emissions-free energy, has announced $1 million in grant funding through its Constellation Foundation. This funding will support 35 community-based conservation projects across five states as part of Constellation’s commitment to creating cleaner, healthier environments in nuclear plant communities.

The Constellation Leading Environmental Accelerators Network (CLEAN) Awards provide direct support to nonprofits combating the climate crisis and promoting sustainability. Grants range from $5,000 to $125,000, with projects focusing on habitat restoration, environmental education, and wildlife protection.

Bryan Hanson, Constellation’s executive vice president and chief generation officer, emphasized the importance of this initiative: “Running the nation’s largest fleet of zero-emissions clean energy centers comes with the responsibility of preserving natural resources, protecting wildlife, and strengthening biodiversity in our communities.”

Supporting Regional Conservation

Among the recipients, the Chesapeake Bay Trust will lead conservation efforts in Southern Maryland. Their work will focus on protecting the Chesapeake Bay watershed and advancing environmental education in the region, particularly near Constellation’s Calvert Cliffs Clean Energy Center.

Dr. Jana Davis, president of the Chesapeake Bay Trust, shared her thoughts on the partnership: “This funding from the Constellation Foundation will allow us to empower more local organizations to lead green projects for their own communities and to inspire lifelong stewards to ensure the sustainability of Calvert County.”

Additionally, the American Chestnut Land Trust will partner with local organizations and federal agencies to establish the Southern Maryland Woodlands National Wildlife Refuge. This project aims to recover threatened species and protect critical habitats.

Broader Community Impact

Constellation’s CLEAN Awards reflect the company’s broader goals of environmental stewardship. In 2024, the Constellation Foundation has allocated $2.3 million to support community-driven initiatives focused on workforce development, clean energy education, and environmental sustainability.
