HLPF 2025 to Review Five Key SDGs Under Theme of Inclusive, Evidence-Based Action

The 2025 High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) will be held in New York from 14 to 23 July, under the auspices of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). The forum will include a three-day ministerial segment from 21 to 23 July, as part of ECOSOC’s High-level Segment.

The official theme for this year is:

“Advancing sustainable, inclusive, science- and evidence-based solutions for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its Sustainable Development Goals for leaving no one behind.”

In-Depth Reviews of Five Critical SDGs

Recognizing the interconnected nature of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the 2025 HLPF will conduct in-depth reviews of the following:

  • SDG 3 – Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages
  • SDG 5 – Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls
  • SDG 8 – Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all
  • SDG 14 – Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources
  • SDG 17 – Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership

Wide Global Participation Expected

Participants will include:

  • Government ministers and officials
  • Heads of UN agencies and multilateral bodies
  • Academics, civil society leaders, and private sector stakeholders
  • Countries presenting Voluntary National Reviews (VNRs)

Additional platforms — VNR Labs, side events, special sessions, and interactive exhibitions — will foster collaboration and knowledge sharing.
