{"id":3295,"date":"2024-07-25T20:07:42","date_gmt":"2024-07-25T20:07:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sdgnews.com\/?p=3295"},"modified":"2024-07-25T20:07:45","modified_gmt":"2024-07-25T20:07:45","slug":"esmas-green-scheme-for-robust-sustainable-finance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sdgnews.com\/es\/esmas-green-scheme-for-robust-sustainable-finance\/","title":{"rendered":"ESMA&#8217;s Green Scheme for Robust Sustainable Finance"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Source: ESMA<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA), the EU\u2019s financial markets regulator and supervisor, has today published an\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.esma.europa.eu\/sites\/default\/files\/2024-07\/ESMA36-1079078717-2587_Opinion_on_the_functioning_of_the_Sustainable_Finance_Framework.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Opinion<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0on the Sustainable Finance Regulatory Framework, setting out possible long-term improvements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ESMA acknowledges that the EU Sustainable Finance Framework is already well developed and includes safeguards against greenwashing. At the same time, ESMA considers that, in the longer-term, the Framework could further evolve to facilitate investors\u2019 access to sustainable investments and support the effective functioning of the Sustainable Investment Value Chain.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Main recommendations for the European Commission\u2019s consideration<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The\u00a0EU Taxonomy\u00a0should become the sole, common reference point for the assessment of sustainability and should be embedded in all Sustainable Finance legislation;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The EU Taxonomy should be completed for all activities that can substantially contribute to environmental sustainability and a social taxonomy developed;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A\u00a0definition of transition investments\u00a0should be incorporated into the Framework to provide legal clarity and support the creation of transition-related products;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>All financial products should disclose some minimum basic sustainability information, covering environmental and social characteristics;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A\u00a0product categorisation system\u00a0should be introduced catering to sustainability and transition, based on a set of clear eligibility criteria and binding transparency obligations;\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>ESG data products\u00a0should be brought into the regulatory perimeter, the consistency of ESG metrics continue to be improved, reliability of estimates ensured; and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Consumer and industry testing\u00a0should be carried out before implementing policy solutions to ensure their feasibility and appropriateness for retail investors.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This Opinion builds on the findings of the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.esma.europa.eu\/sites\/default\/files\/2023-06\/ESMA30-1668416927-2498_Progress_Report_ESMA_response_to_COM_RfI_on_greenwashing_risks.pdf\">ESMA Progress Report on Greenwashing<\/a>&nbsp;and the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.esma.europa.eu\/press-news\/esma-news\/esas-propose-improvements-sustainable-finance-disclosure-regulation\">Joint ESAs Opinion on the review of the SFDR<\/a>.
