Masdar and UAE partners move to deliver round-the-clock renewable energy for Uzbekistan
A major step toward always-on clean electricity is taking shape in Central Asia. Masdar, alongside UAE partners, has signed a new agreement with Uzbekistan Ministry of Energy to explore a gigascale, round-the-clock renewable energy project that could transform how power is produced and delivered across the country.
The ambition is clear. Deliver continuous, reliable clean electricity at utility scale. Not just solar when the sun shines, but 24/7 power built for modern economies.
From Intermittent to Always On
At the heart of the proposal is an integrated system that pairs large-scale solar generation with advanced battery energy storage. The goal is up to 1 gigawatt of uninterrupted clean power, capable of replacing fossil-fuel baseload while strengthening grid stability.
For a fast-growing economy like Uzbekistan, this model solves a critical challenge. Renewable energy no longer needs to be a supplement. It becomes the backbone.
Energy Security Meets Climate Action
Uzbekistan has been accelerating its energy transition, and this project would push it into a new category of clean power leadership. Continuous renewable electricity reduces exposure to fuel price volatility, cuts emissions, and supports industrial growth without locking in carbon.
For the UAE, the partnership reflects a broader strategy. Exporting clean energy expertise at scale. Proving that next-generation renewables can meet real-world demand, all day and all night.
Masdar’s Expanding Central Asia Footprint
Masdar already has a growing presence in Uzbekistan, with multiple large projects underway and billions of dollars committed across solar and storage. This new initiative builds on that momentum and positions the country as a test case for a future grid powered by round-the-clock renewables.
The company is pursuing similar projects elsewhere, signaling a global shift toward always-on clean energy as the next frontier of the energy transition.
A Signal to the Market
This agreement is about more than one project. It sends a message to governments, utilities, and investors worldwide. The era of intermittent renewables is ending. The era of clean baseload power has begun.
If delivered at scale, Uzbekistan’s 24/7 clean energy project could become a model for emerging economies seeking growth, resilience, and climate alignment in one move.
Clean energy. All day. Every day.
