Key Impact Points:
Panama launches landmark Nature Pledge integrating climate, biodiversity, and land policies across all government levels.
UNFCCC, Global Resilience Partners, and private sector leaders call for cross-sector investment to drive nature-based solutions.
Panama becomes first country to host all three Rio Convention pre-COPs in a single year, setting a new global standard.
Panama Launches Landmark Nature Pledge
The 2025 Nature Summit, hosted by the Government of Panama, concluded with the unveiling of the Nature Pledge, a national commitment to unify climate, biodiversity, and land restoration efforts. The initiative positions nature as a foundational pillar for economic resilience and sustainable development.
“With the Nature Pledge, Panama is charting a bold new course—one that recognizes that climate, biodiversity, and land restoration are inseparable pillars of a sustainable future,” said H.E. Juan Carlos Navarro, Panama’s Minister of Environment. “We invite the world to join us in building a unified, nature-positive pathway forward.”
Nature Summit as the Official Climate Week Forum
The Summit was the only official forum aligned with the UNFCCC’s inaugural Global Climate Week, co-led by Global Resilience Partners (GRP) and the Government of Panama. UN Climate Chief Simon Stiell opened the event, emphasizing implementation over discussion.
“Here in Panama, we’re hosting the first of our new revamped Climate Weeks,” said Stiell. “More than ever before, this event will focus on connecting words on paper in our process, with making real-world progress… because to beat climate change, everyone needs to benefit.”
A New Model for Public-Private Action
Over 300 global leaders convened for three days of curated programming across the Blue Economy, Green Economy, and Day of Action tracks. Designed to convert ambition into partnerships, the summit hosted invitation-only gatherings aimed at building trust and investment-ready collaborations.
The event concluded with a closed-door session featuring ministers, family office principals, and private sector executives, exploring public-private investment opportunities in Panama.
“We’re no longer talking about nature as something to be saved — we’re talking about nature as the engine of economic transformation,” said Matt Tranchin, Chairman of Global Resilience Partners. “What we collectively built here in Panama is not just momentum — it’s infrastructure.”

Momentum Toward COP30 and Beyond
With support from PVBLIC Foundation, SDG News, Roar Media, and Auteur Agency, the Nature Summit sets a precedent for operationalizing government ambition through private capital and innovation.
As part of its ongoing leadership, Panama will now host the official pre-COP17 forums for both the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), following the UNFCCC Climate Week—making history as the first country to convene pre-COPs for all three Rio Conventions in one year.
“Panama has proven that leadership is about action,” said Juan Carlos Monterrey Gomez, Panama’s Special Representative for Climate Change and Vice-President of COP30. “As we look toward COP30 in Belém, Brazil, the world must follow Panama’s example—aligning across sectors and unlocking capital at scale.”

The Nature Summit will continue evolving as a catalytic force for aligning capital, policy, and partnerships, offering a replicable framework for nations eager to build nature-positive economies.
