A Commitment to Community Health

At just 31, Lynn Estriplet has already made a significant impact in the field of public health and nutrition. Recently named one of the 40 Under 40: The Rising Stars in NYC Food Policy (Class of 2024), her journey is a testament to her dedication and passion for making a positive difference in the community.

From Port-au-Prince to NYC: A Journey of Impact

Growing up in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, Lynn has always been driven by a commitment to improving health and well-being. “My career journey has been driven by a commitment to making a positive impact on the health and well-being of communities,” she reflects. This dedication led her to pursue a Bachelor’s in Nutrition and Food Science from Hunter College, followed by an MPH from NYU’s School of Global Public Health.

Leading the Way at NYC Health Department

Currently, Lynn is the Get the Good Stuff Program Coordinator at the NYC Health Department. For the past five years, she has supported the day-to-day operations of this rapidly expanding supermarket-based nutrition incentives program. In partnership with independently owned supermarkets and their point-of-sales vendors, Get the Good Stuff helps New Yorkers participating in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) purchase and consume more fruits and vegetables. Her passion for food security and healthy eating stems from years of supporting the implementation of food access and nutrition education programs that promote New Yorkers’ health and well-being.

Innovative Approaches to Nutrition and Public Health

Lynn believes in the power of data-driven decisions and the importance of fostering strong relationships with partners. “I believe in the power of data-driven decisions and the importance of fostering strong relationships with partners. I’m always eager to connect with professionals who share these values or who are passionate about public health and nutrition,” she says.

Personal Insights and Inspirations

Describing the current food system as “unsustainable,” Lynn draws inspiration from organizations like Rise and Root Farm and Soul Fire Farm for their commitment to sustainable development, food sovereignty, and an equitable food system. She doesn’t have a specific food policy hero but admires these organizations’ work.

When it comes to personal preferences, Lynn enjoys a breakfast of overnight oats and lists pasta as her favorite food. Her ultimate last meal on Earth would be Tasso kabrit, salad russe, and diri kole ak pwa (Fried goat, beet/potato salad, rice and peas). For food hangouts, she loves the Queens’ Night Market for its diverse and economically inclusive offerings.
