Starting in June 2027, this agreement replaces public subsidies from Illinois\u2019 Zero Emission Credit (ZEC) program with a private-sector solution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cWe are excited to partner with Constellation and the Clinton community to ensure the long-term operations of the nuclear plant, add new capacity, and help preserve over 1,000 jobs. Securing clean, reliable energy is necessary to continue advancing our AI ambitions,\u201d<\/em> said <strong>Urvi Parekh, Head of Global Energy at Meta.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Economic and Climate Win for Central Illinois<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The deal guarantees the continued operation of one of Illinois\u2019 top-performing nuclear plants, which was previously at risk of closure due to financial losses. Clinton provides enough carbon-free electricity to power over 800,000 homes and employs more than 530 workers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>\u201cWe are proud to partner with Meta because they asked that important question, and even better, they figured out that supporting the relicensing and expansion of existing plants is just as impactful as finding new sources of energy,\u201d<\/em> said <strong>Joe Dominguez, CEO of Constellation.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>A Brattle Group analysis found that closing Clinton would increase emissions by over 34 million metric tons and reduce Illinois\u2019 GDP by $765 million annually. This partnership averts that outcome.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Investment in the Community and Future Energy<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>As part of the agreement, Clinton will expand its output by 30 MW through nuclear uprates and explore future options for advanced nuclear reactors or small modular reactors (SMRs) at the site. Constellation also pledged $1 million in community support over five years starting in 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Strong Political and Local Support<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cMeta is investing in our future, preserving good-paying jobs, and driving economic development for decades to come,\u201d<\/em> said <strong>Clinton Mayor Helen Michelassi.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>\u201cThis partnership ensures that legacy continues \u2013 without burdening taxpayers,\u201d<\/strong> added Rep.
