A recent milestone illustrates that progress. UpEnergy’s Tanzania Community Carbon Project became eligible for the first phase of the aviation industry’s CORSIA carbon market following Tanzania’s first authorization under Article 6. More than 142,000 tonnes were tagged as eligible units under Verra’s VM0050 methodology, while the project’s sustainable development outcomes were independently certified under SD VISta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The achievement builds on UpEnergy’s broader portfolio of projects aligned with the Core Carbon Principles, reinforcing the company’s commitment to high-integrity carbon credits at a time when governments, investors and businesses increasingly prioritize quality over quantity in climate finance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For Matt Evans, however, building stronger climate institutions requires more than better methodologies. It also requires investing in the people who will lead them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That commitment is reflected in his mentorship of Serah Lois Wawira and Lydia Bernard-Jones, two rising leaders at UpEnergy whose work is helping shape the future of electric cooking across Africa. Together, they have combined product innovation, behavioral science and community engagement to help expand clean-cooking solutions to more than 100,000 households across Ghana, Rwanda, Uganda, Tanzania and Zambia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before co-founding UpEnergy, Matt Evans helped develop some of the earliest carbon methodologies for improved cookstoves and household water treatment projects.
