Its goal: unlock financing solutions that support climate resilience and inclusive growth across all ASEAN Member States and Timor Leste.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cBlue economy has emerged as a vital driver of growth while ensuring the preservation of water resource ecosystems in ASEAN,\u201d said <strong>H.E. Mr. Satvinder Singh<\/strong>, Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN for the ASEAN Economic Community.<br>\u201cThe blue carbon market, though nascent, is emerging as a potential revenue stream for countries investing in conservation and restoration.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-driving-asean-s-blue-economy-strategy\">Driving ASEAN\u2019s Blue Economy Strategy<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Funded by the Government of Japan and implemented by UNDP Indonesia, the ABCF Project is part of the ASEAN Blue Economy Framework and builds on the earlier ASEAN Blue Economy Innovation Project. The initiative aims to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Enhance technical capacity for carbon stock assessment<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Create finance-ready blue carbon profiles<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Integrate blue carbon into regional development strategies<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cJapan is honoured to support this important initiative,\u201d said <strong>H.E. Mr. KIYA Masahiko<\/strong>, Ambassador of Japan to ASEAN \u201cTogether, through strategic collaboration and partnerships, we can establish a regional platform to measure Blue Carbon and Blue Finance for climate action and sustainable growth.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-untapped-potential-in-seagrass-and-peatlands\">Untapped Potential in Seagrass and Peatlands<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Southeast Asia holds 33% of the world\u2019s seagrass beds and nearly 40% of known tropical peatlands\u2014representing 6% of global peatland resources. However, these ecosystems remain underutilized due to technical and policy barriers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cSeagrass and peatlands are among the most effective and affordable nature-based solutions for mitigating climate change,\u201d said <strong>Mr. Norimasa Shimomura<\/strong>, UNDP Indonesia Resident Representative.<br>\u201cThrough the ABCF Project, UNDP is proud to collaborate with ASEAN and the Government of Japan in bridging science, policy, and finance to unlock the potential of blue carbon for sustainable development.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-regional-collaboration-for-climate-finance\">Regional Collaboration for Climate Finance<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>More than 100 stakeholders\u2014including policymakers, scientists, and development partners\u2014gathered in Jakarta for the launch. A high-level panel explored how blue carbon can be integrated into national climate strategies, spotlighting Japan\u2019s experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ABCF Project is designed to inform ASEAN-wide policy dialogues and mobilize climate finance for marine restoration and protection.
