The announcement came during the Blue Economy and Finance Forum (BEFF) in Monaco and positions CAF as the <strong>leading multilateral organization in blue finance<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cThis important financial commitment not only reflects CAF&#8217;s effort to protect the region&#8217;s marine ecosystems, but also our ambition to be the main catalyst for a sustainable and regenerative blue economy in Latin America and the Caribbean,\u201d<\/em> said <strong>Sergio Diaz-Granados, CAF&#8217;s executive president<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-strategic-oceans-framework-anchored-in-four-pillars\">Strategic Oceans Framework Anchored in Four Pillars<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>CAF\u2019s new sustainable blue economy strategy, also presented at BEFF and the UN Ocean Conference (UNOC), introduces a comprehensive framework that integrates ocean conservation with economic development. The strategy is built on four pillars:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Finance &amp; Instruments:<\/strong> Leveraging blue bonds, biodiversity credits, and debt-for-nature swaps to unlock capital.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Blue Diplomacy:<\/strong> Promoting regional cooperation and defining the ocean as a global common good.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Education &amp; Capacity Building:<\/strong> Boosting awareness and skills among key stakeholders.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Local Value Creation:<\/strong> Ensuring economic returns stay in coastal communities.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-investment-areas-to-power-ocean-based-development\">Investment Areas to Power Ocean-Based Development<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The $2.5 billion commitment will support:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Marine-coastal resource management<\/strong> for conservation and productivity<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Renewable ocean energy development<\/strong> to lower the maritime sector\u2019s carbon footprint<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Responsible tourism and recreation<\/strong> that protects fragile ecosystems<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Local economic upliftment<\/strong> through inclusive development models<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Innovation and marine technology<\/strong>, including biotech and offshore infrastructure<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Strengthening governance<\/strong> with updated legal and institutional frameworks<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-past-achievements-and-next-steps\">Past Achievements and Next Steps<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>CAF has already <strong>exceeded its 2022\u20132025 target<\/strong> of mobilizing $1.25 billion, having deployed <strong>$1.32 billion across 35 projects<\/strong> in 16 countries.
