The funding will support Arbor\u2019s first commercial-scale facility in Louisiana, expected to launch in 2028 and remove 116,000 tons of CO\u2082 over two years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>\u201cThis is the decade where we are investing in the category to make sure that we know what works and what doesn\u2019t work,\u201d <\/em>said <strong>Hannah Bebbington, Head of Deployment at Frontier<\/strong>. <em>\u201cWe\u2019re going to see some real success stories, and some real failure stories, and that\u2019s absolutely to be expected.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-arbor-s-tech-works\"><strong>How Arbor\u2019s Tech Works<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Arbor\u2019s approach is a next-gen take on bioenergy with carbon capture and storage (BECCS). The system turns timber waste into synthetic gas, then burns it with pure oxygen to generate electricity. This process creates water and pressurized CO\u2082 \u2014 the latter is captured and stored underground.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For every ton of carbon removed, Arbor\u2019s process can generate up to 1,000 kilowatt-hours of clean electricity, while also producing water, which the company plans to sell for uses like data center cooling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-carbon-removal-meets-ai-demand\"><strong>Carbon Removal Meets AI Demand<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Bebbington emphasized Arbor\u2019s fit with surging demand from data centers and AI infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>\u201cWe need to remove gigatons of CO\u2082 from the atmosphere and we need a lot more clean electricity to meet the pace of AI\u2019s development,\u201d<\/em> she said. <em>\u201cArbor really fits the bill.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>The electricity and water outputs give Arbor diversified revenue streams, making it more appealing to investors and more resilient to political shifts in U.S. carbon policy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-frontier-s-strategy-co-benefits-and-caution\"><strong>Frontier\u2019s Strategy: Co-Benefits and Caution<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This investment reflects Frontier\u2019s broader strategy: backing carbon removal projects with marketable byproducts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>\u201cCarbon removal technologies that have co-benefits broadly, and certainly co-products [that can be sold] are really poised for scale and are pretty resilient to political shifts,\u201d <\/em>Bebbington said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Other startups in Frontier\u2019s portfolio, like 280 Earth, also target data centers by offering direct air capture plus waste heat reuse and cooling services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-reality-check-ahead-of-2028-launch\"><strong>Reality Check Ahead of 2028 Launch<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>While promising, Arbor\u2019s solution won\u2019t be commercially deployed until at least 2028.
