{"id":7199,"date":"2025-08-01T07:39:26","date_gmt":"2025-08-01T11:39:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sdgnews.com\/?p=7199"},"modified":"2025-08-01T07:39:28","modified_gmt":"2025-08-01T11:39:28","slug":"eu-adopts-sustainability-reporting-standard-to-support-small-companies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sdgnews.com\/ru\/eu-adopts-sustainability-reporting-standard-to-support-small-companies\/","title":{"rendered":"EU Adopts Sustainability Reporting Standard to Support Small Companies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Key Impact Points:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Simplifies ESG reporting<\/strong>: New VSME standard offers SMEs a streamlined way to respond to sustainability data requests.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Protects smaller firms<\/strong>: Acts as a \u201cvalue-chain cap\u201d to limit excessive ESG data demands from large companies and banks.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Improves finance access<\/strong>: Aims to help SMEs secure funding by meeting investor and lender ESG requirements.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-european-commission-adopts-voluntary-standard-for-smes\">European Commission Adopts Voluntary Standard for SMEs<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The European Commission has adopted the <strong>Voluntary Sustainability Reporting Standard for SMEs (VSME)<\/strong>, designed to make it easier for smaller businesses to report ESG data and respond to requests from financial institutions and large companies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Developed by the <strong>European Financial Reporting Advisory Group (EFRAG)<\/strong>, the VSME targets companies not covered by the EU\u2019s Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) but still facing growing demands for sustainability-related information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>The Commission encourages large companies and financial institutions seeking SME ESG data to base their requests on the VSME \u201cas far as possible.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Streamlined, Two-Tier Structure<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The VSME has two reporting levels:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Basic Module<\/strong> \u2013 11 key disclosures, such as Scope 1 &amp; 2 emissions and anti-corruption measures, most often requested by value-chain partners.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Comprehensive Module<\/strong> \u2013 9 additional disclosures often sought by banks and investors, including GHG reduction targets, transition plans, and ESG practice descriptions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The aim: give SMEs flexibility while ensuring they meet the most common ESG data demands without facing disproportionate reporting burdens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Linked to Omnibus I Proposal<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Commission\u2019s February 2025 <strong>Omnibus I simplification package<\/strong> proposed limiting mandatory CSRD reporting to companies with over 1,000 employees\u2014removing about 80% of companies from mandatory requirements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For smaller firms, the VSME would become the <strong>default voluntary reporting framework<\/strong> and also set a ceiling for the level of ESG detail large companies and banks can request from SMEs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Interim Step Toward a Delegated Act<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Today\u2019s recommendation is an <strong>intermediary measure<\/strong> until a delegated act formally adopts the voluntary standard.
