The Trump administration spending its first two months to review the previous administration\u2019s projects, identify waste, and realign our research spending to the suit the priorities of the American people is not going to upend America\u2019s innovative dominance,\u201d Desai said in an email to The Verge.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-immediate-impact-and-long-term-consequences\">Immediate Impact and Long-term Consequences<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Within the first 100 days of Trump\u2019s presidency, significant disruptions to major federal agencies like the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Health and Human Services (HHS), and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have already occurred.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The administration is reportedly investigating over 50 universities to dismantle diversity-support programs aimed at historically marginalized groups. Columbia University was recently pressured into changing its policies and programs due to a threat of losing $400 million in federal funding, the letter notes. Other institutions have halted research projects, laid off staff, and suspended graduate admissions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This climate is pushing scientists to consider leaving the U.S. altogether.
