GRI Academy Expands Curriculum for Sustainability Professionals

As climate and biodiversity crises deepen, the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) is taking steps to help organizations improve how they disclose environmental impacts. The GRI Academy has launched two new online courses to equip sustainability professionals with the tools to meet growing stakeholder demands for transparency and accountability.

“Whether you’re looking to advance your learning or deepen your organization’s understanding of impacts, the GRI Academy provides the tools and knowledge to help you navigate the evolving sustainability reporting landscape,” said Paul Broekhof, GRI Director of Education.

Course 1: Climate Reporting with GRI and IFRS Standards

This course offers detailed guidance on reporting using the GRI 102 Climate Change Standard and the IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards. It emphasizes a more holistic approach that includes human and biodiversity impacts, going beyond traditional climate risk disclosures. Key topics include:

  • Greenhouse gas emissions
  • Transition plans
  • Adaptation strategies

It also underscores why climate risk alone is no longer a sufficient reporting lens.

The second course focuses on nature-related disclosures and how to align reporting with both GRI Standards and the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) recommendations. A major highlight is the new interoperability mapping tool that simplifies and unifies biodiversity-related reporting requirements.

Preparing Professionals for the Future of Reporting

“To support sustainability and corporate reporting professionals in staying ahead of the curve and advancing their careers, we are proud to launch these two new additions to the GRI Academy,” said Broekhof.

With 30 courses available globally through online and instructor-led formats, the GRI Academy continues to provide industry-leading training that supports professionals in adapting to the rapidly evolving sustainability landscape.
